Why is voice range different than text range?

Voice Range: 2 to 5 miles

Text Range: 4 to 10 miles

We can extend the range of text due to the small amount of data being transmitted enabling us to dynamically adjust the bit rate down for text messages and allowing for a 2.5x increase in range. Most traditional two-way radios are closer to 1 to 3 miles for voice only.
